Trexy takes Search Solutions delegates on a Pub Trail

Last night Trexy hosted a drinks reception for the British Computer Society (BCS) Information Retrieval Specialist Group Search Solutions 2007 delegates.

I led the way (or should I say "trail") from the BCS HQ to the popular Chez Gerard restaurant in Covent Garden which overlooks the Royal Opera House.

It was good to meet some of the delegates and to discuss online search and information retrieval.

Release 862 - The Need for Speed

Speed is one of the most important usability factors for a search engine.

In this version of Trexy you can now search where the trails intersect. But computing trail intersection points is expensive and in some pathological cases we were seeing a 24sec response time - which is totally unacceptable.

I felt a sense of deja vu as I refactored the core search engine to make it faster and I'm really happy to report my efforts paid off.

The average response time is now less than 200ms! ;-)

Keep an eye on the base of the Trexy results page. You can see the response time there - if it ever goes above 400ms please email: nigel@trexy.com.

No More Toolbars - Announcing the TrailButton

The Firefox and IE7 interface designers have responded to the desire for search to be built directly into the browser by incorporating a search engine drop down box (see top right of your browser).

Trexy's ecological niche, as a system for remembering search trails on other search engines, is here too. So we've designed a new Firefox Extension that works with the search engine drop down in your browser.

The TrailButton enables you to easily blaze trails from the search engine drop down in your browser - it works just like the TrailBar except it takes up much less screen real estate.

You can download the TrailButton for Firefox now. The IE7 version is coming soon.

We hope you like it! As always your feedback really does feedback into the design of the product - let us know what you think?

Trexy at Innovate! in Zaragoza

Trexy is exhibiting at the Innovate! 2007 conference in Zaragoza, Spain this week. We are in an amazing conference venue – it is the old Teatro Principal in the heart of the city.

The conference has just started. It’s a gathering of technology innovators from all over Europe and the States. The conference has been organised by GuideWire Group LLC who meets over 1500 start-up companies each year, of which a select few get invited to participate in their conferences. We are very excited to be here and to meet fellow innovators and journalists alike.

Featured in the Web 2.0 session, Nigel attracted an interested and eager audience to hear about Trexy.

Here is a shot of Nige in action.

Meta Trails are Here

First, what the hell is a meta-trail?

Well in short it is a trail on top of another trail!

Trexy's raison d'etre has always been to help you arrive at a relevant and authoritative result quicker.

Meta trails are a mechanism for optimally associating a search desire with a result over time.

It works in a similar way to a physical trail - just like a goat trail for example ;-).
